Water for Elephants

It was Friday 13th, so what do you do to stay out of trouble ? We decided to go to the cinema and see ‘Water for Elephants’.

Despite the negative review in the UK Guardian newspaper (and a number of other publications) we enjoyed the film. To quote the Internet Movie Database … “A veterinary student abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a travelling circus as their vet”

One of the 'Stars' of the movie is Rosie the Elephant who for some reason can only understand Polish commands but they don't explain why

I would only make two comments. (1) I don’t understand the relevance of the film title. (2) In my opinion Reese Withspoon is totally miscast.

The Boys' Celebration of Life

A tribute to uniquely inspiring Holocaust survivors by their families. "The Boys" were children who outlived the Death Camps and Marches and then embraced life and the bonds of survival ever-since.

This film tells a life-affirming story, that is truly incredible, of jubilation and generosity of spirit.

Israeli conductor Barenboim holds Gaza 'peace concert'

"Israeli conductor Daniel Barenboim is due to lead an orchestra of European musicians in a "peace concert" in Gaza. It is the first-ever performance in the Palestinian territory by an international classical ensemble. Israel forbids its civilian citizens from travelling to Gaza, so Barenboim is entering via Egypt, along with 25 musicians. For years, Daniel Barenboim has used music to try to promote peace between Israel and the Palestinians."

Hitler had Jewish, African ancestry (DNA test)

As a follow-up from the news that Barack Obama has proven that he was born in the United States, it’s now been revealed that Hitler had Jewish and African ancestry.

As I have 100% faith in the media, if it’s in  the newspapers and on TV then it must be true.

Hilde Back's £10 donation to a Kenyan child inspired a move to improve scores of loves, a new documentary reveals

To her friends, Hilde Back was a quiet, elderly Jewish woman who used to teach pre-school children and had lived alone for 35 years. But to Chris MBuru she was "an angel who had walked into my life and fixed it".

Back, now 88, is the star of Jennifer Arnold's new documentary, A Small Act, after she unwittingly inspired the largest educational fund in Kenya.
